During the night of Saturday, October 10 to Sunday, October 11, the Agency for Roads and Traffic will transport a 4000-ton arch bridge from the construction site to its final position over the highway. The E40 will be fully closed in both directions from Saturday, October 10 at 8 PM until Sunday, October 11 in the early afternoon.
Drivers intending to use the E40 between Brussels and Liège will be rerouted via regional roads. The Flemish Traffic Centre advises road users to avoid the E40 and its surroundings as much as possible due to expected heavy traffic on the diversion routes.
Local residents wishing to follow the works are welcome at the viewing area located at Tervuursesteenweg 308 in Bertem. This area will be accessible from 9 PM to 1 AM. From this vantage point, the placement of the steel arch bridge can be safely observed. The bridge is exceptionally large and heavy, meaning the work will proceed step-by-step at a slow pace. Visitors should be aware that there may be periods with little visible movement between certain phases.
