The monument, located at the Bonewijk, carries the message: take five minutes and regularly check your breasts. A small change can be an important signal, as men can also develop breast cancer. However, the disease is still too little known among them, often leading to a later diagnosis.
Kris Cabus, a saxophonist who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 and whose brother, sister, and partner were also affected by the disease, emphasizes the importance of awareness. "Men are so often forgotten," says Cabus. "That's why we call on all men to regularly check their breasts. The later the diagnosis, the smaller the chance of recovery." His appeal is clear: "Live today! Don't wait for the diagnosis."
