Although the plans are not yet final, they outline how Flanders views the future of Zele. According to the preliminary draft, Zele is considered one of the cores that are easily accessible, possess numerous amenities, and thus offer opportunities for further development.
This designation does not mean that major changes will occur immediately. However, in the longer term, the recognition can create opportunities, such as additional investments in public transport, an enhanced level of services, more space for entrepreneurship, or new housing developments in suitable locations.
The inclusion in the plan primarily confirms that Zele is increasingly seen as an important link between larger cities such as Dendermonde, Lokeren, and Sint-Niklaas. The municipal government is therefore initiating the preparation of its own spatial policy plan to prepare for Zele's future.
