On the site of the current outdated infrastructure, which will be demolished, a new youth complex will be erected. The design includes five multifunctional youth rooms, a spacious multipurpose hall with a kitchen, sanitary facilities, and the necessary storage and technical spaces. By opting for a partially underground construction level, the impact on the environment is minimized, while still creating sufficient space for various youth activities. The building will be fully accessible for people with disabilities and will feature a lift between the two levels.
Particular attention has been paid to the location next to the nature reserve during the design phase. The existing forest zone will be fully preserved. Additionally, extra green buffers, a play forest, and new plantings will be provided to carefully shape the transition between the youth site and the nature reserve.
The youth complex will be equipped with a heat pump, solar panels, and an advanced rainwater harvesting system with a storage capacity of 50,000 liters. The collected rainwater will be used for sanitary facilities and municipal services, among other things.
With this project, Sint-Lievens-Houtem is investing in qualitative infrastructure for its youth associations. The new youth complex is intended to become a vibrant meeting place where children and young people can develop, play, and gather in a safe and inspiring environment.
