The Flemish government is exploring alternatives for the Gentbrugge viaduct, which is nearing the end of its lifespan and causing significant disruption.

A project group has studied traffic flows in the entire area around the E17, E40, and R4 east and south of Ghent. In 2024, several alternatives were proposed with implications for the main roads in this region. The project group ultimately selected seven alternatives.
Residents of Destelbergen, Ghent, Laarne, and Merelbeke-Melle will receive an information brochure about these plans by early December. The project team will present the seven alternatives during an information market in each municipality.
The information market in Merelbeke-Melle will take place on Monday, January 11, 2027, from 4 PM to 8 PM in the foyer of the Cultuurhuis, located at Driekoningenplein 15. Following the information markets, the public consultation will begin, allowing official feedback on the alternatives. Subsequently, the Flemish government will examine the remaining alternatives to reach a final decision.
Registration for the information market can be done via www.viadewebsite.be.
