The City of Ghent has launched the new ‘Inclusion Action Plan 2026-2031’, which includes fourteen focus points on accessibility, anti-discrimination, and strengthening diverse talent.

The plan, developed with input from Ghent residents with lived experience and advisory councils, features concrete actions such as the renovation of the rainbow house Magenta on Kammerstraat, which will remain with the LGBTQI+ community through a long-term lease until 2050. The development of the inclusion campus in Sluizeken-Tolhuis-Ham, a meeting point for newcomers, people with disabilities, organizations, and businesses, is also planned.
Furthermore, accessibility will become an essential condition for receiving subsidies from the City. This requirement will also apply to public procurement contracts where relevant. The city emphasizes that while diversity is a strength, an inclusive city must actively remove barriers to ensure everyone can fully participate and feel at home.
Other action points include making one hundred city buildings accessible, expanding the Kombi project aimed at strengthening trust between youth and police, and investing in bystander training and a comprehensive approach to hate crimes in collaboration with the Ghent police.
