Traffic disruptions are anticipated along the Brusselsesteenweg in Merelbeke, near Huyghe brewery and the Carrefour supermarket, during two distinct periods. Wyre is carrying out utility works in the area.
Phase 1, running from October 6, 2026, to January 15, 2027, focuses on the works at the brewery. Motorized traffic will experience alternating lanes through the construction zone. Cyclists heading towards Ghent will be rerouted from Melle College via De Regenboog, the cycle path behind De Regenboog, Eikerwegel, and Gemeenteplein. Cyclists on the Geraardsbergsesteenweg near Veerweg will be diverted via Veerweg, Kloosterstraat, and Centrumstraat.
Phase 2, from October 19, 2026, to January 15, 2027, concerns the area near the Carrefour supermarket and the petrol station. Here too, motorized traffic will navigate alternating lanes. Cyclists heading towards Ghent from Melle-centrum will follow a detour. Cyclists coming from Ghent will be rerouted via Nonnenwegel, Gontrode Heirweg, and the towpath near the Ringvaart canal.
