The municipality of Merelbeke is closing its parks and forests from Friday, October 23rd at 10 AM until Saturday, October 24th at 7 AM due to the expected strong gusts of wind from storm Austen.

The municipality is asking residents to prepare for the stormy weather. It is advised to close windows and doors and keep roller shutters up. Loose objects such as garden furniture, play equipment, party tents, and flower pots should be secured or brought inside. It is also important to clear gutters and drains to limit waterlogging and to check for any loose roof tiles. Pets should be kept indoors.
During the storm, it is advised not to make non-essential journeys that can be postponed. If you must travel, please adjust your driving behavior: drive slower, avoid overtaking, and be extra cautious. Parking or sheltering under or near trees is discouraged, as is driving on roads that are flooded. Parks, forests, nature reserves, and other areas with many trees should be avoided.
For storm damage requiring the fire department, residents can use the e-loket at www.1722.be or that of their local emergency services zone. Those without internet access can call 1722. Patience is requested as fire services may have to process many reports. In case of life-threatening danger, always call 112.
