In the Reukens district of Wichelen, DDS renovated 16 rental homes into energy-efficient dwellings. During this project, the team encountered a question that extends beyond Wichelen: what if the best roof for solar panels isn't your own, but your neighbor's?
Climate & Energy Advisor Annemie De Proft, Property Manager Tim Speleers, and Local Realizations Manager Joris Maervoet explain how they, with the support of the project First Aid for Energy Communities (EHBE), developed a technical and legal solution. They highlight that other regional inter-municipalities and local authorities can readily implement this.
