The local plant sale in Sint-Truiden has raised €38,742.50 this year for scientific cancer research and support projects. The total amount was announced during an appreciation event for volunteers.

The entire proceeds of the campaign go directly to scientific cancer research and support projects for people with cancer and their loved ones. The ambition to sell 3800 plants, symbolically referencing the postcode of Sint-Truiden, was achieved thanks to broad cooperation between volunteers, associations, care homes, the Sint-Trudo hospital, department stores, neighbourhood restaurants, companies, schools, and local traders. The many residents of Sint-Truiden who bought a plant also contributed to the success.
On Saturday, October 24, the Plantjescomité (Plant Committee) honored all volunteers during an official appreciation event at the Sint-Trudo hospital. They were thanked for their commitment, enthusiasm, and dedicated efforts with coffee and cake. The final amount of €38,742.50 was announced during this event.
This year, solidarity was also central with the 'book of hope'. Residents could write personal messages of hope, love, and support for people affected by cancer during the Plantjesweekend and up to the Day Against Cancer on October 15. This initiative followed up on the large board with the message 'You don't carry cancer alone' from the previous edition. The initiators symbolically handed over the book of hope to the oncology department of the Sint-Trudo Hospital.
The local government and the Plantjescomité expressly thank all volunteers, partners, and staff who made the Plantjesweekend possible, as well as all residents who bought a plant or left a message in the book. Sint-Truiden once again shows itself to be a warm and solidary city, where people look out for each other and no one stands alone. Every plant sold made a difference, every word of support gave hope, and together it was made clear: you don't carry cancer alone.
