Talking about addiction is not always easy. Shame, stigma, or the barrier to seeking help can cause people to remain alone with their problems for a long time. Contact with people who have similar experiences can then be an important first step.
Within the contact group, peer support is central. Participants can share experiences, listen to each other, and find support from people who understand what it means to be confronted with addiction and recovery. Everyone decides for themselves what they want to share.
The new contact group aims to be a safe and accessible meeting place primarily for individuals struggling with addiction themselves, but partners, family members, acquaintances, and professional caregivers are also welcome.
From now on, meetings will be held every Monday from 7 PM to 9 PM at the Service Center "Aan de Statie". Participation is free.
The contact group is a collaboration between the Municipality of Lanaken, Integra Limburg, the Mental Healthcare Network Noolim, Addiction Umbrella Kempen, and Primary Care Zone Maasland.
