The municipality of Heusden-Zolder is investing an additional 25,000 euros in childcare, on top of 280,000 euros in Flemish subsidies, to expand capacity and support young families.

The demand for childcare remains high in Heusden-Zolder, leading to long waiting lists, particularly for full-time care. To increase the available spots, the municipal council has approved a new subsidy regulation.
In addition to Flemish infrastructure subsidies, which support group childcare organizers for renovations, building adaptations, or furnishing new spaces, Heusden-Zolder is providing supplementary municipal funds. This support is also available for family childcare organizers, for example, for purchasing furniture and materials.
The municipal support is not limited to creating new places; investments that improve the quality of existing childcare facilities are also eligible.

"We know how difficult it can sometimes be for young families to find suitable childcare. That's why we want to encourage organizers to create extra places. But we are also looking beyond just expansion. By freeing up additional funds ourselves, we can also support smaller childcare initiatives and invest in the quality of existing care. Because every child deserves a safe and happy place to grow up."

With this investment, the local government aims to strengthen the childcare offering in Heusden-Zolder and provide young families with more opportunities to find care that meets their needs.
