Residents of Halen willing to assist during emergencies such as floods, heatwaves, or power outages can now register as volunteers. The city of Halen is collaborating with Red Cross Flanders to establish a volunteer corps capable of aiding professional emergency services when extra hands are needed.
As a volunteer, you will help with practical tasks. This includes filling and placing sandbags, distributing water or relief supplies, providing support at a reception center during an evacuation, or assisting with cleanup operations. The corps does not replace professional emergency services but offers crucial additional support.
Before deployment, all volunteers will receive a free basic training from Red Cross Flanders. This training covers life-saving techniques, first aid, and practical information on how to provide support during an emergency. The next training session is scheduled for Saturday, October 31st, at 9:00 AM in De Markthallen.
Those who wish to contribute to emergency response in Halen and make a difference in critical times can sign up for the volunteer corps and attend the training. More information and registration are available at www.eerstehulp.rodekruis.be/vrijwilligerskorps/Herk-de-Stad. Together, Halen ensures that the city can rely on extra help even in crisis situations.
