In Genk, VDAB and UCLL have organized a practical day where second-year Human Resources Management students conducted job interviews with participants from VDAB training courses.

Genk - A joint initiative by VDAB and UCLL brings together future HR professionals and job seekers in Genk. During a practical day, students from the Human Resources Management bachelor's program (UCLL) conducted job interviews with participants from VDAB training courses. This project offers valuable practical experience and new insights for both groups, strengthening the link between education and the labor market.
For the VDAB participants, the simulation session served as important preparation for real job interviews. In a safe environment, they could hone their skills, receive feedback, and boost their confidence, helping them approach future interviews with greater assurance.
The Human Resources Management students from UCLL University of Applied Sciences also gained significant experience. They practiced conducting in-depth interviews, asking targeted questions, listening actively, and professionally assessing candidates. Furthermore, interacting with job seekers provided them with valuable insights into the challenges faced by candidates, enhancing their professional skills and empathy as future HR professionals.

"For job seekers, it's not always easy to start such an exercise, but it is incredibly educational for them. After all, you can learn to apply for jobs. Thanks to the targeted feedback from the UCLL students, they discover what is already going well and where they can still grow. This way, they take a concrete step in their preparation for the next application and increase their chances of getting a job."

Joris Philips · Director VDAB Limburg
The interviews were characterized by an open and respectful atmosphere, with honest and constructive feedback exchanged between students and participants. The growing self-confidence and motivation among the participants were clearly noticeable, while the students increasingly mastered their professional roles.

"For our students, this practical day brings together everything the program stands for: professional conduct, active listening, and focusing on the person behind the CV. By practicing with real candidates, they not only learn to conduct better interviews but also grow in empathy and responsibility as future HR professionals."
