During the Levensloop in Genk, teams alternate for 24 hours on the track, an event symbolizing hope, connection, and meeting.

The Levensloop in Genk is more than just movement; the event is dedicated to hope, connection, and meeting. Participants can temporarily forget their worries, as testified by Djamila Belbachir, who, despite her past as a cancer patient, now aims to inspire others. She is active at the stand of vzw Open Je Hart, a charity raising funds for people in need.
The loss of loved ones to cancer motivated Micheline Clerinx and her daughter Evelien Van Bael to commit strongly to Levensloop. After her son's passing, Micheline found extra motivation in participating. Together with Evelien, she manages the catering for participants. Pino Parrinello also volunteers with preparations, setup, dismantling, and technical issues, driven by the loss of his father to cancer.
Beyond the emotional moments, the four emphasize the warm and convivial atmosphere of the event. "Levensloop is also a joyful event," explains Evelien. She describes how young people and families populate the track on Sunday mornings. Evelien's favorite moment is the evening candle ceremony, a time for hope and remembrance of lost loved ones.
Djamila notes that Levensloop increasingly brings together people of different ages and cultural backgrounds. She also observes growing engagement among young people, contributing to better discussions about cancer through openness and listening.
The event takes place from Saturday, October 10 (2:30 PM) to Sunday, October 11 (2:30 PM) at the athletics track of the Atlascollege. The candle ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, October 10 at 8 PM.
