Criminals increasingly use online scams like phishing via email, SMS, phone, or QR codes to deceive victims. To build resilience against this, the City of Genk, in collaboration with the cybercrime unit of CARMA police, is organizing an information stand at the market. This will take place on Thursday, October 8 and 15.
Visitors can get answers to all their questions about digital security. A short survey will be conducted, and attendees can learn more about the free CyberPreventionAdvice. A 'digidokter' (digital doctor) will provide practical tips for staying safe online.
To playfully draw visitors to the stand, street theater will be performed. All of this aims to better inform people about phishing and how to protect themselves against it.
Have you fallen victim to phishing? It is recommended to contact your bank or FraudStop (078 170 170) as soon as possible and report it to the police. Suspicious messages can be forwarded to verdacht@safeonweb.be.
