The temporary ban on withdrawing water from non-navigable waterways in Limburg will be lifted from Thursday, October 29, 2026, as water levels have sufficiently recovered and water demand is limited.

Water levels and flow rates in most Limburg waterways have sufficiently recovered. Furthermore, the demand for water from nature and agriculture is currently very limited. Consequently, the temporary withdrawal ban, which was introduced on July 14, 2026, to reduce additional pressure on waterways during drought, is no longer deemed necessary.
The CIW Drought Advisory Group, the Water Management department of the province of Limburg, and the Flemish Environment Agency confirm that most waterways now meet the ecological minimum flow rates and water levels. This allows for the lifting of the temporary ban.
The permanent withdrawal ban for vulnerable waterways remains in effect. No water may be pumped from these waterways throughout the year.
