Hasselt-based company PVS is switching to inland shipping for its container transport, an initiative supported by POM Limburg and Multimodaal.Vlaanderen to make logistical operations more efficient and sustainable.

PVS, a producer of professional audio and audiovisual solutions from Hasselt, is making the switch to inland navigation to gain more control over its logistics operations. For years, PVS's containers were transported directly from the port of Antwerp to Hasselt by truck, leading to inefficiencies due to traffic jams, unpredictable arrival times, and difficult planning.
Multimodaal.Vlaanderen and POM Limburg investigated with the Hasselt-based company how its goods flow could be organized more efficiently and sustainably. The previous direct road connection between Antwerp and Hasselt involved approximately 210 km for a round trip between the port and PVS, making PVS heavily reliant on road traffic and resulting in challenging daily planning.
Marin Rooijakkers, Internal Supply Chain Manager at PVS, stated: “The switch to multimodal transport is not just about fewer truck kilometers for us. The greater predictability simplifies our planning, gives us more control over our daily operations, and results in significant cost reductions.”
With the support of Multimodaal.Vlaanderen and POM Limburg, PVS sought an alternative: a combination of inland shipping and a short road trip via the Genk inland terminal Port of Limburg. This change reduces the road distance from 210 kilometers to 48 kilometers and increases the reliability of the logistics chain.
This new transport solution leads to more predictable deliveries and more efficient scheduling of unloading teams. This also results in smoother warehouse operations, less wasted time, and higher operational efficiency.
In addition to operational advantages, the switch to inland shipping also provides significant environmental benefits. Annually, PVS saves approximately 21.8 tons of CO₂ and avoids 24,000 truck kilometers on busy Flemish traffic routes.
