The Flemish Government is discontinuing the popular SME portfolio from January 1, 2027. Companies can still submit support applications in 2026, as long as the budget lasts.

The SME portfolio has long been one of the most used support instruments for small and medium-sized enterprises. This subsidy allowed companies to receive financial support for training and advice on digitalization, sustainability, business strategy, innovation, and personnel policy, among other areas.
This decision has concrete consequences for companies: applications can still be submitted in 2026 until the available annual budget is depleted. From January 1, 2027, no new applications can be submitted. However, companies with an already approved and ongoing support application can complete their project until December 31, 2027.
According to the Flemish Government, this decision is part of a broader budgetary effort to deploy available resources more effectively.
Entrepreneurs who still wish to use the SME portfolio for training or advice are advised not to postpone their plans. They can check in time whether they can still submit an application within the available budget for 2026. More information is available via info@vlaio.be or the VLAIO information line at 0800 20 555.
