Highly pathogenic bird flu has been confirmed at a hobby farm in Tongeren. A 3 km protection zone and a 10 km surveillance zone have been established around the infection hotspot.
A part of Wellen falls within this 10 km surveillance zone. Once precisely demarcated by the FAVV (Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain), it will be available on the FAVV website.
Within the surveillance zone, additional measures are in place to prevent further spread of the virus. Poultry and hobby poultry must be housed or enclosed, movements of birds or eggs are prohibited, and strict rules apply to feeding and drinking.
The municipality will place warning signs on all roads crossing the border of the surveillance zone.
