Starting Sunday, November 22, 2026, at 07:30, a new allocation of VHF channels will take effect within the operational area of Zandvliet Traffic Control, aiming to better distribute busy VHF traffic and improve communication.

The main change involves splitting the current operational area of VHF channel 12 near buoy 92. The northern section will remain on channel 12, while channel 81 will be introduced for the southern section. This adjustment will create more space for smooth and clear communication between traffic controllers and waterway users, contributing to safe and efficient traffic management.
From November 22, the following allocation will apply:

  • Channel 12 – VTS Zandvliet: from buoy 55 to buoy 92

  • Channel 81 – VTS Kruisschans: from buoy 92 to buoy 116

  • Channel 10: upstream of buoy 116

This also expands the operational area of Zandvliet Traffic Control, shifting the boundary from buoy 100 to buoy 116.
The Agency for Maritime Services and Coastal Affairs (MDK) emphasizes the importance for shipping to monitor the correct channel and use the appropriate call sign from the effective date: VTS Zandvliet on channel 12 and VTS Kruisschans on channel 81.
The Permanent Commission for Supervision of Scheldt Navigation ratified the new allocation on September 29, 2026. The Joint Nautical Management (GNB) will continue to monitor the operation of the new channel allocation in conjunction with traffic controllers and waterway users.
