The construction of this comfortable passage, providing a safe route for cyclists and walkers, is being carried out by the municipality's own workers. Without external companies, a three-meter-wide cycle path is being built, complemented by the planting of trees and greenery, the expansion of a play forest, a bicycle bump course, and the provision of picnic spots and benches. Employees from the green, road, and transport teams are collaborating on the project's completion.
The efficient and flexible approach of the municipal services ensures that the works proceed without delay. Currently, the final touches are being applied to the cycle and walking connection. The local diversion will remain in effect until the end of next week. After that, the connection can be used, although the full completion, including plantings, picnic areas, public lighting, and bicycle bumps, will take a few more weeks.
The design of the new connection also benefited from the input of children and young people from Nijlen. Student councils from Goezo! Klokkenlaan and De Zandloper, as well as the Nijlen Children's Council, contributed to the layout, aiming to create a safe, green environment that aligns with what children and young people find important.
