In Kessel, on November 11th, attention will be paid to the WWI Armistice with an atmospheric commemoration at the fort. This year's central theme is ‘Give Us Peace’, aiming to both reflect on the past and emphasize the meaning of peace today. Peace is presented as something that requires continuous attention, understanding, and connection between people.
The commemoration at the fort begins at 7:15 PM after the laying of flowers. Visitors are welcome from 7:00 PM at the parking lot of sports hall De Putting. Free soup will be provided, and guests are welcome to bring their own soup mug. No registration is required.
The commemorations start earlier in the morning. At 9:00 AM, there will be a remembrance at the war memorial in the cemetery of Bevel, with the trumpeters of Fort Kessel playing ‘Ten Velde’. At 9:30 AM, a similar event will take place at the war memorial in the cemetery of Kessel, accessed via the entrance at Voetweg.
At 10:00 AM, a solemn eucharistic service will be held in the St.Willibrordus Church in the center of Nijlen, supported by the St.-Salvator choir. Afterwards, the Royal Harmony St.-Cecilia will accompany attendees to the war memorial in the cemetery in Nijlen for a floral tribute.
