From January 1, 2027, the regulations concerning the criminal record extract for volunteers in youth work will change. For certain volunteers, it will become mandatory to present a criminal record extract (model 596.2). This applies to volunteers who are 20 years or older, are structurally active, take on a pedagogical role, and have contact with minors.
The youth association is responsible for requesting and checking the certificate. The certificate must be no older than one month and does not need to be kept after verification. The association only registers that the check has taken place and when it occurred. The check must then be repeated every three years.
Important: a mention on the extract does not automatically mean someone cannot be a volunteer. The association must determine if the mention is relevant to the role within youth work.
The municipality will provide an information sheet with the key details and a practical checklist to address potential questions.
