“"The CBO procedure proves that public and private sectors can strengthen each other. The projects already realized today are evaluated very positively by both partners. That builds confidence, which is important because only by working together constructively can we realize extra social housing faster. And that is needed more than ever."

Woonhaven is calling on private construction partners with suitable project sites in Antwerp to explore the possibilities of a CBO project. Those who have developable land and wish to investigate if their project site qualifies for social housing can contact Wonen in Vlaanderen at cbo.wonen@vlaanderen.be.
The demand for affordable housing in Antwerp remains high. To realize additional social housing more quickly, Woonhaven, in addition to its own construction projects, also focuses on collaborations with private partners. The CBO procedure (Constructive Approach to Public Procurement) of Wonen in Vlaanderen is an important way for private initiators to realize social housing on their own land. After completion, the homes are purchased by a housing company. Design and execution are handled by a single construction firm, leading to significant time savings.
Collaborations with private construction partners and Woonhaven, established through the CBO procedure, have already yielded positive results. The Eksterlaar project in Deurne, which won the Renaat Braemprijs, was Woonhaven's first project under the CBO formula. Last year, Durabrik realized 40 social homes in the Vuurmolenstraat in Wilrijk and on the Bredabaan in Merksem. With construction company D’Hulst, Woonhaven worked on the Wittestraat project in Kiel with 19 social apartments. In Wilrijk, 60 social homes are also under construction with Triple Living, including 36 senior flats and 24 family homes. By 2026, Woonhaven will have realized around 100 social homes through this procedure.
These projects contribute to the development of high-quality living environments with a focus on sustainability, housing quality, and liveability. CBO is a valuable addition to Woonhaven's own construction projects and other acquisition strategies.
