The Province of Antwerp is committed to a healthy and sustainable living environment through its Environmental Laboratory and various projects focused on water management and nature conservation.

The Environmental Laboratory of the PIH provides expert support to environmental and health specialists through comprehensive analyses. This contributes to the province's efforts for a healthy, sustainable, and prosperous living environment.
Research into polluting substances and the creation of a pleasant business environment better protected against heat, waterlogging, and drought are key components of the environmental policy. The province is realizing various projects to achieve these goals.
One example is the flood control area on the Bosbeek in Rumst, which protects the surroundings from waterlogging. The project '(Be)Leefbare Schelde' promotes cooperation within the Unesco Geopark Schelde Delta to shift tourist pressure and make the regional offering more sustainable.
Furthermore, the Hooibeekhoeve supports 24 farmers in water reuse, storage, and managing environmental risks. Advice for forest management is provided by the Bosgroepen.
Additionally, the PIH analyzes surface water quality and investigates suspected discharges and pollution. The EUROCAT register records congenital abnormalities, and the De Jutse Plassen project protects Koningshooikt from floods, while also serving as a hotspot for bird species and nature enthusiasts.
