Antwerp sports clubs are receiving over €1.8 million in city support from Sporting A this season for equipment and infrastructure, aiming to enhance their operations and sustainability.

Antwerp sports associations will receive a total of €1,818,074 in city support for equipment and sports infrastructure this 2026–2027 sports season. These investments, awarded by Sporting A, are intended to help clubs develop their operations and create high-quality, safe, and sustainable sports environments.
For investments in sports-related equipment, 121 sports associations met the conditions and will collectively receive nearly €426,000 in support. These funds will enable clubs to invest in necessary equipment for training, matches, and daily operations, including field maintenance, inspections, sports and maintenance materials, and sanitary facilities.
Additionally, there was significant demand for subsidies for sports infrastructure type 1, covering investments up to €20,000. 90 sports associations qualified for this category and will receive over €603,000 in total. These funds will be used for the maintenance and improvement of sports fields, changing rooms, sanitary facilities, safety measures, roof work, renewable energy systems, and sustainable mobility initiatives.
Earlier this year, nearly €790,000 was already allocated for sports infrastructure type 2 (investments exceeding €20,000), with 24 applications approved. Examples of these projects include the renovated indoor fields of Hoboken Pioneers (baseball and softball), roof renewal for handball club Uilenspiegel, and the installation of a small artificial turf field at football club OLSE Merksem.

"Over 1.8 million euros is a lot of money, and it's wisely spent, as it goes to sports clubs that show initiative and ownership to secure their daily and future operations and meet their members' expectations for quality, safety, and comfort to the best of their ability. More than three-quarters of the total pot goes to various infrastructure projects originating from and partly funded by dozens of sports clubs. This pooling of resources is once again bearing fruit and is stimulating thanks to the 70/30 split: the burdens are fairly distributed, and the benefits are a key to a vibrant, vital, and sustainable Antwerp sports landscape. In short, a win-win situation for everyone, and precisely because of the mutual commitment and shared responsibility, it is also a prime example of heritage management in the city."
