Cyclists using the Bels Lijntje between Turnhout and Tilburg can now expect more comfort and a recognizable appearance. New information signs, picnic benches, bicycle parking, wayfinding, banners, and kilometer markers are being installed along the entire 35-kilometer route.
The new setup is not just practical. The site furnishings subtly reference the rich railway past of the Bels Lijntje, adding an extra layer of experience to the popular cross-border cycle route.
The Bels Lijntje follows the former railway connection between Turnhout and Tilburg. Today, the railway has evolved into a beloved cycling route through nature and the border region.
With the new basic infrastructure, the entire route will have a uniform appearance for the first time. Cyclists will find not only practical facilities along the way but also information that tells them more about the surroundings and the history of the railway line.
The new infrastructure is the first visible realization within the Interreg project “Brabant kust de Kempen”, in which thirteen Flemish and Dutch partners are collaborating to create a stronger and more experiential tourism offering in the border region.
