Nine public clients across Flanders have selected 45 young designers and 12 artists for the Masterpiece 2025 Youth Infrastructure. These designers will work on nine concrete public assignments spread throughout Flanders, with a focus on youth infrastructure. For four of the nine projects, young artists were also invited to develop an artistic proposal.
Team Flemish Architect has been organizing the Masterpiece since 1999 to provide recent graduates and young artists with practical experience through real societal challenges. Under the mentorship of experienced architects and guidance from experts, they can realize their first public commission. The 2025 edition specifically targets youth infrastructure, with projects ranging from youth centers and meeting places to the repurposing of buildings and churches, as well as public spaces and temporary interventions.
Following a call in July 2026, 45 designers were selected: 9 individual applicants and 18 duos. The phase for submitting tenders officially began on Friday, October 16, 2026, during an inspiration day at the Predikherenkerk in Mechelen. Participants will develop their proposals in the coming months, which will be presented to the clients in the spring of 2027 and to the public in the summer. The ultimate goal is the realization of nine innovative projects.
The City of Poperinge decided in early October to halt the project in Watou due to changed financial circumstances, but nine other clients are continuing their commitment.
