The municipality of Edegem offers various options for parents who have lost a child, including a Star Registry and a permanent memorial site at the cemetery.

The loss of a child leaves deep scars, and the need to remember them persists. Therefore, Edegem provides several ways to commemorate this loss.
The Star Registry allows parents to give their stillborn child a symbolic place and a lasting memory, even years after the loss. Parents receive a symbolic certificate after registration. An initiative to add a small star with a first name and date of birth at the cemetery is still under development and expected in 2027.
Additionally, Edegem has established a permanent memorial site at the cemetery. This quiet, warm place is intended for anyone who wishes to remember a loved one or simply find a moment of peace.
In collaboration with the Berrefonds (Remembrance Fund), 'koesterbanken' (comfort benches) have been placed at three symbolic locations: by the pond at Fort 5, at the Edegem cemetery, and at the Romeinse Put. These benches symbolize comfort, connection, and lasting remembrance.
More information about the Memorial Site and the Star Registry can be found at www.edegem.be/stilteplek.
