With these adjustments, Beerse aims to create more opportunities for outdoor play and neighborhood encounters. The updated regulation aligns with Beerse's ambition as a Goe Gespeeld! municipality to stimulate 365 days of outdoor play. Applying for a play street is now possible under the new conditions.
Key changes include that play streets can be organized throughout the entire year. In July and August, this can be done at any time, while during other months, a play street can be established for a continuous period of at least two days. The number of required play street supervisors has been reduced from three to two. Additionally, resident approval has been lowered from 80% to two-thirds. Applications must now be submitted four weeks before the start date, instead of six weeks. A play street can be set up between 8 AM and 10 PM.
A play street involves temporarily closing the street with barriers and traffic signs during agreed-upon hours. The entire width of the street is then reserved for play, primarily by children. Residents, cyclists, and priority vehicles retain access according to the regulation's conditions.
