On Friday, September 25, the new Klim-Op at the Kappaertsite officially celebrated its opening. More than 120 visitors had the opportunity to discover the site, which is now bustling with life and interaction.
The new infrastructure consolidates various functions under one roof: special education, after-school childcare, and holiday programs. This creates a unique space where children can learn, play, and grow.
The Kappaertsite features modern facilities including classrooms, a large dining hall with a teaching kitchen, a multipurpose hall with a retractable tribune, three green play zones with natural play elements, a sports field for football and basketball, and calisthenics equipment. Local residents can also use the play zones and sports field, transforming the Kappaertsite into a community meeting point.
The opening of Klim-Op marks the first phase of the further development of the Kappaertsite. Preparations are underway for a subsequent phase that will include the Art Academy, creating a campus where education, leisure, and creativity mutually reinforce each other.
The realization of Klim-Op was achieved through close collaboration between various partners and support from the Flemish government. For the construction of the educational facilities, Klim-Op received over 6.2 million euros in AGION subsidies, enabling the creation of a modern, accessible, and future-oriented learning environment tailored to the needs of special education.
