The restoration of the Royal Galleries and Thermae Palace in Oostende is well underway. The eastern part of the Galleries has been reopened, and the completion of the 'Droge Coo' is expected by the end of October.

Restoration work on the Royal Galleries and the Thermae Palace in Oostende is progressing steadily. Following the commencement of works in September 2025, the eastern section of the Galleries was reopened to the public in July 2026.
It is anticipated that the restoration of one of the heads of the Royal Galleries, known as the Droge Coo, will be completed by late October. This building, located at Koning Boudewijnpromenade 10, was operated by KAAP vzw until the start of the restoration works.
The new concession aims to revive artistic and (socio)cultural events at this location. An accompanying café is permitted, provided its activities align with the cultural offerings.
A specific condition is the organization of the ‘wereldtafels’ (world tables) initiative at least 10 times per year. This culinary event, previously organized by Stad Oostende, brings together people from diverse cultural backgrounds by sharing meals and stories.
Through this concession, Stad Oostende offers a prime location for cultural experiences, attracting both residents and visitors. This is further enhanced by the restoration of the Royal Galleries, the repurposing of the Thermae Palace, and the ongoing development of Park Royal into a multifunctional public green space.
Candidates for the concession, which has a duration of nine years, can submit their offers until November 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Submissions are exclusively accepted online via the e-Procurement platform at www.publicprocurement.be.
