Over the past year, many Ieper families have found their way to Kokon, a place where sharing, reuse, and mutual help are central. The Ruilwinkel currently has 134 members, and the Babytheek has 42 members.
The Babytheek functions as a library for baby items, where families can borrow materials needed for the first 12 months after birth. Through the online catalog, members can reserve a maximum of four items at a time. The standard membership fee is 20 euros per year, with a social rate of 4 euros for those eligible.
At the Ruilwinkel, baby and children's clothing (up to size 116) and other items like sheets and sleeping bags can be exchanged. The system works with tokens: brought-in clothing earns tokens that can be used to take other items. A maximum of 15 items can be brought in per visit.
The first anniversary is celebrated with 134 members for the Ruilwinkel and 42 families at the Babytheek. A team of eight enthusiastic volunteers ensures the welcome, sorting, and maintenance of the shop, which is essential for keeping Kokon accessible and warm.
To supplement the offerings, Kokon organizes collection moments. The next one will take place on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 7 PM. There is currently high demand for cribs, bouncers, high chairs, and (duo) strollers, and for the Ruilwinkel, children's clothing in sizes 110 and 116, and coats are particularly needed.
