The Kasteeldreef, a key connecting road between Hertsberge and Wingene, is being made safer with the installation of road cushions. This measure aims to reduce driver speeds and increase awareness.

To enhance traffic safety on the busy Kasteeldreef, the municipality is installing several road cushions. These are intended to encourage drivers to reduce their speed and be more attentive, thereby making the street safer for residents, cyclists, pedestrians, and other road users.
Road cushions will be placed at seven locations along the Kasteeldreef. Traffic signs and road markings will alert drivers to their presence, while reflectors will ensure visibility in the dark.
The work, including the installation of road cushions and traffic signs, will take place during the week of October 19. The application of road markings will be carried out by a specialized company and is dependent on dry weather. A specific date has not yet been set.
During the construction period, traffic will be temporarily diverted via a local loop, with separate detours for traffic heading towards Wingene and Hertsberge to minimize crossing traffic in side streets.
This intervention is part of the broader village center renewal project in Hertsberge, which focuses on a safe core for all road users, a secure school environment, space for greenery and water, and areas for experience and meeting. The Kasteeldreef, between Wingensestraat and Talieweg, is included in this project.
Currently, the design for the village center renewal is being refined, and utility and sewage works are being prepared. Utility works are scheduled to begin in the spring of 2027, after which the neighborhood will be informed. A contractor for the sewage and road works will be appointed in the winter of 2026-2027. The exact duration of these works is not yet known and will be further developed with the contractor, but they will proceed in phases to limit disruption.
