Philippe Badert, an internationally acclaimed artist, is exhibiting a new collection of paintings at the MEC Staf Versluys. These works delve into the complex relationship between individuals and social media. His art is neither an indictment nor a plea, but rather an observation of how we look, present ourselves, and are perceived in an era of continuous visual streams.
The displayed pieces explore the boundary between the natural and the constructed, and between authenticity and staging. A notable example is the poster image: an apparently idyllic landscape subtly incorporating a video fragment at the bottom, suggesting a frozen moment within an unending digital flow.
In addition to landscapes, the exhibition also features several portraits. Here too, the focus is not on judgment, but on the encounter: the viewer becomes aware of their own role in the interplay of looking and being looked at, a central theme in contemporary digital culture.
The exhibition runs until October 16th and can be visited during the regular opening hours of the MEC Staf Versluys.
