The local government of Blankenberge, in collaboration with CAW Noord West-Vlaanderen, is launching the Mama's Anker project to support single mothers for ten months and strengthen their social networks.

The project utilizes the methodology 'Wensgrootouders & Droomkleinkinderen' (Wish Grandparents & Dream Grandchildren), developed by Avansa regio Brugge, and receives support from the National Lottery. The aim is to connect single-parent families who are missing a grandparent figure with volunteers willing to offer time, attention, life experience, and a warm presence.
As a 'wish grandparent', volunteers are not alone. The process begins with information sessions and intake interviews. The local government then facilitates a suitable match between a volunteer and a family. Introductory meetings and guided group activities help build trust step by step.
Interested individuals can attend an information session to learn more about the commitment. These sessions are scheduled for Monday, November 23rd at 7 PM at De Bezaan, Jordaenslaan 34, and on Friday, November 27th at 2 PM in the library's auditorium. Registration is possible via an online form or by phone at T 050 235 892.
