More than 3,500 children from 16 primary education schools and 2 special education schools will tackle the challenging obstacle course in Asiat Park between September 28 and October 9.
The school cross-country run, which has become a fixture in the city's school sports offerings over the years, will take place over seven consecutive school days from September 28 to October 6 for primary school students. On October 7, the city will host BUSO De Vest, and on October 8 and 9, several secondary schools will join.
The event is not about winning or losing, but about moving, having fun, and facing challenges together. The course in Asiat Park combines running with various obstacles to stimulate endurance, motor skills, and team spirit. It also offers children the chance to discover a special place in their city in an active way.
Gert Bouquiaux, head of public outreach for Asiat Park, states: "The school run has been taking place in the park for four years now. We have seen the event steadily grow into a large movement festival. The school run is in the right place here because we want to give young people more opportunities to develop positively. The fact that we can also involve local entrepreneurs, such as sports club Novus, for the runners' warm-up, shows how well this cross-pollination can work here."
With the participation of all Vilvoorde primary schools, including special education, the school cross-country run underscores the importance of accessible sports and physical activity for all children.
Alderman for Youth and Sport Laure Scheerlinck is particularly proud of the participation numbers: "This record edition of the school cross-country run shows how strongly sport resonates with our children. The fact that all Vilvoorde primary schools, including special education, are participating makes this extra special. With over 3,500 students, this edition will be the largest school cross-country run Vilvoorde has ever organized. Together, we are taking a big step towards more movement, fun, and connection for all children in our city."
