The works will take place in specific streets: in Blanden, these include Kartuizersstraat, Kouterstraat, Tulpenlaan, and Bierbeekstraat. In Haasrode, the affected streets are Bovenbosstraat, Vlierbeekstraat, Konijnenhoekstraat, and the Expressweg.
The primary objective of these works is to separate wastewater and rainwater. This will enable more efficient operation of the water treatment plant and reduce the likelihood of diluted wastewater entering ditches. Rainwater will have more space to infiltrate the soil, be temporarily stored, or be discharged at a slower rate. This contributes to replenishing groundwater, bridging dry periods, and mitigating the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall.
The permit application process will commence in the spring of 2027. The actual construction work is scheduled to begin in 2028, with completion anticipated by the end of 2029. This timeline is provisional. The works will inevitably cause disruption, but by working in phases, this will be minimized as much as possible, meaning not every street will experience inconvenience for the entire duration of the project.
Once the permit is granted and the works can be definitively scheduled, a new information session will be held for the affected residents. Further information will also be shared via the municipal website. Presentations from previous information evenings are already available on the project pages 'Sewer and Road Works in Blanden' and 'Sewer and Road Works in Haasrode'.
