Starting Monday, October 26, utility works will commence in Pastoor Pitetlaan in Betekom as preparation for the roundabout's redevelopment. The works, aimed at making the area safer and greener, are expected to last until December 2026.

The college of mayor and aldermen of Begijnendijk appointed InterLeuven on May 27, 2025, as the study bureau for the redevelopment of the area around the roundabout in Betekom, where Prof. Scharpélaan meets Pastoor Pitetlaan. An information meeting for residents took place at the end of June 2026. A second meeting will be held once the contractor is known, to discuss the timeline, phasing, and associated traffic disruption.
The redevelopment aims to make the area safer for vulnerable road users and to green and de-pave the hardened surfaces along the roadside.
The preparatory utility works will start on Monday, October 26, in Pastoor Pitetlaan, from the junction with Werchtersesteenweg to Aarschotsesteenweg. These works include the installation of new pipes and the connection of homes to these new lines. To accommodate the school environment and peak hour traffic, work will be carried out on school days between 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM. The completion of this phase is expected by December 2026, after which similar works will take place in Prof. Scharpélaan. Subsequently, the road surface in Pastoor Pitetlaan and part of Prof. Scharpélaan will also be renewed.
During the works, temporary traffic lights will be installed, allowing alternating traffic flow from both directions.
Reports or questions regarding the works can be submitted via the municipality's online reporting portal.
