The Flemish government is organizing a free breast cancer screening in the Mammobus in Begijnendijk from October 2nd to 20th, along with an information session on Sunday, October 11th.

Approximately 6,000 women in Flanders are diagnosed with breast cancer annually, making it the most common cancer among women. About 3 out of 4 cases occur in women over 50 years old, and roughly 1 in 5 women diagnosed with breast cancer eventually dies from the disease.
To encourage women aged 50 to 69 to undergo a free screening mammogram every two years, the Flemish government launched the population screening program for breast cancer in June 2001. This screening is vital for detecting cancer early, potentially before symptoms appear, thus increasing the chances of successful treatment.
This year, from October 2nd to 20th, women can visit the Mammobus located in the parking lot of sportcentrum De Tumkens for a free screening mammogram. Repeating the examination every two years is important as each scan reflects the condition at that specific time.
For inquiries about the population screening program, visit www.bevolkingsonderzoek.be or call 0800 60 160. Personal medical concerns should be discussed with a general practitioner.
Additionally, the municipality is hosting a free information session on breast cancer on Sunday, October 11th, presented by Professor Van Limbergen. Participants will receive more details on breast anatomy, symptoms, and early detection through the screening program. Registration is mandatory via this link. Further information about this session can be found here. A reception with refreshments will follow the session.
