The station was officially put into use on August 11, 1967, and was considered a modern and progressive building at the time. It served as the base for the Zeelse fire department for many years. Upon its commissioning, the corps had three modern vehicles: a Ford equipment and personnel vehicle, an International pump truck, and a Ford Big Job heavy pump truck.
However, not everything will disappear. The old enamel emblem that hung above the entrance door for years has found a new place in the new fire station. The International vintage fire truck also moved and was given a place of honor. Thus, two tangible reminders of the old station and the generations of firefighters who responded from there are preserved.
In the coming months, the site will be prepared starting November 4. The dismantling of the building will follow, preceded by asbestos removal on November 9. The demolition of the building itself will take place in November. In January 2027, remediation work will begin, followed by further demolition and on-site crushing of rubble in February and March. The works are scheduled for completion in March 2027.
