In Flanders, it rarely gets truly dark anymore, leading to the disappearance of stars and disruption of the natural rhythms of animals and plants due to excessive artificial light.
Therefore, the municipality is once again participating in the Night of Darkness, which this year takes place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, between 7 PM and 11 PM. During these hours, the local administration will extinguish public lighting to allow the nocturnal landscape to shine in its natural darkness.
The administration urges all residents to participate by also turning off the lights around their homes and enjoying the peace, silence, and stars.
Together, October 10th is intended to be the darkest and most beautiful night of the year.
