After an intensive 64-hour course, comprising theory and practical sessions, eleven out of 21 candidates who participated in the Higher Rescuer training in Merelbeke-Melle passed their exams on the first attempt. The training, organized by the Ghent Rescue Club FLAG, prepares them for rescue operations and first aid.
During the course, candidates learned essential skills such as resuscitation and effective action during rescue operations, contributing to swimmer safety. The municipality supported the training by making its swimming pool available for practical lessons, allowing rescuers to practice in a realistic environment.
A new approach was tested this year, with theory exams taken online via a secure platform from Sport Vlaanderen. Both participants and instructors responded positively to this pilot project.
The municipality of Merelbeke-Melle wishes the eleven new higher rescuers success in their future roles.
