During the council meeting on September 28, 2026, three municipal councilors took their oath. The Special Committee for Social Services (BCSD) also welcomes two new members.
Xanthippe Van De Genachte (cd&v) has been appointed as a new municipal councilor, succeeding Isabelle Heyndrickx. Van De Genachte, 37 years old, grew up in Sint-Amandsberg and studied History and European Politics. Her focus will be on childcare, education, and welfare. She also aims to address affordable housing and heritage. Professionally, she monitors the subsidization of primary and specialized care at the Department of Health. Previously, she chaired Vrouw & Maatschappij and served as youth chair for cd&v Ghent.
Additionally, Safoura Zombra (Groen) and Mingtje Wang (pvda) were appointed as temporary municipal councilors. Zombra replaces Bert Misplon until November 29, 2026, due to parental leave. Wang replaces Yüksel Kalaz for medical reasons until the end of December 2026.
The composition of the Special Committee for Social Services (BCSD) has also changed. Eda Öztürk (cd&v) and Elise De Meulenaere (Groen) have been appointed as new members. They replace Xanthippe Van De Genachte and Joren Gistelinck, who resigned from the BCSD. Van De Genachte will now serve as a substitute member, replacing Simon Smagghe.
