The City of Ghent invites local residents to a dialogue café on Thursday, November 26, 2026, to view design proposals for new homes at Meulestedekaai and share their opinions.

New homes are being developed at the corner of Meulestedekaai on a site purchased by sogent in 2018. The future housing project is part of the urban renewal program Muide Meulestede Morgen. The project includes a mix of social rental, budget rental, and market-rate purchase homes and apartments, with space for a neighborhood shop, offices, a hospitality business, or another community facility. A green zone will be created in line with the community gardens at ’t Oud Postje.
Sogent is currently seeking a private partner to realize the housing project. Candidate partners have submitted design proposals. During the dialogue café, residents can view these proposals and share their points of attention and ideas. This input will be considered in the further evaluation of the proposals by the jury.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the designs in small groups with other neighborhood residents. The collected remarks will be compiled into a report for sogent's assessment committee. The dialogue café itself will not select a winner or rank proposals.
The current planning indicates that the private partner will be appointed by the summer of 2027, with construction work expected to begin in 2029. The vzw Sociale Kruideniers Gent currently operates the shop SupermerKade here, and Werkhuis Bulb and wrestling club Kampioen will remain until 2028.
