A West Nile virus infection has recently been confirmed in our region. This virus is spread by mosquitoes and can infect both humans and horses. Health services emphasize that the risk of serious illness for most people remains limited, with many infected individuals experiencing no symptoms or only mild complaints.
To minimize the risk of infection, it is advisable to protect yourself against mosquito bites, particularly during dusk and at night. This can be achieved by wearing long clothing, using insect repellent, installing mosquito nets on windows and doors, and sleeping under a mosquito net if necessary.
There is currently no cause for alarm, as the risk of illness remains limited. However, health services request continued vigilance until the end of October and adherence to simple precautionary measures.
More detailed information about the West Nile virus and protective measures can be found on the website of the Department of Health.
