The De Brielmeersen domain in Deinze will be the venue for the Draft Horse Day on Sunday, October 4th. Visitors can enjoy an afternoon of equestrian pleasure with a range of free activities for all ages.
In addition to opportunities for rides on a draft horse, in a covered wagon, or on a magic carpet, there will be various demonstrations. Admission to the domain is free. "The Draft Horse Day offers our visitors a unique chance to admire the impressive draft horses up close," stated deputy Dagmar Beernaert, responsible for Recreational Domains. "Thanks to the extra activities, they can partake in this beautiful annual tradition and enjoy our lovely domain."
The event coincides with the annual provincial competition for the Belgian draft horse in Deinze. This competition, organized by Pakov (the association of East Flanders breeders) in collaboration with the City of Deinze and the Province of East Flanders, expects over one hundred draft horses.
Between 9 AM and 4 PM, the horses will be judged individually. The top contenders will then compete in various championships, including the 'Grand Prize City of Deinze' and the 'Grand Prize Province of East Flanders'. The day will conclude with a parade of breeders and their groups of three mares.
The program includes the provincial horse competition from 9 AM to 4 PM at the entrance of the marina (Brielpoort parking). Between 1 PM and 4 PM, free activities will take place across the domain, such as log-pulling demonstrations, a farrier demonstration, a visit to the animal park, draft horse rides for children up to 12 years old, and a hobby horse race.
