The merged municipality of Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht is entering a new phase in its search for a common name. Residents aged 16 and over can express their preference among five selected names until November 22.

After receiving nearly 5000 proposals, five names have been shortlisted that aim to reflect the municipality's identity and future. The names, drawing inspiration from the landscape, connection, change, or the future, are Polderwaas, Scheldewaas, Scheldewende, Terwaas, and Welde. From October 12 at 12 PM until November 22 at 11:59 PM, residents can cast their vote via an online platform, where they can rank the names according to their preference.
The names of the thirteen sub-municipalities – Bazel, Beveren, Burcht, Doel, Haasdonk, Kallo, Kieldrecht, Kruibeke, Melsele, Rupelmonde, Verrebroek, Vrasene, and Zwijndrecht – will remain unchanged, as will the postal codes. The new collective name will replace the temporary designation Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht.
The process involves several stages: proposal submission (June 15 to July 31), an initial screening, selection of five strong names by a panel of twelve members, the voting round for residents, and finally, the official announcement of the most preferred name. Residents needing assistance with voting can turn to friends, family, neighbors, or the Digipunten (digital help points). Additionally, a mobile voting station will tour the sub-municipalities during the voting period to answer questions and provide support.
