The foyer of De Werf Cultuurhuis in Aalst is becoming a warm meeting place where culture, conviviality, and food come together, with a renewed interior and a lunch offering starting October 19.

The foyer of De Werf Cultuurhuis is getting a makeover and will become a warm and inviting meeting place where culture, conviviality, and good food come together. Operators Sam and Ruth aim to make it an accessible place where everyone feels welcome. "Coming to a performance should be a total experience: first enjoy something delicious to eat, then enjoy culture, and conclude the evening in the foyer."
The creative direction for the renovation is in the hands of Piet De Koninck. Reused materials have been incorporated: the bar and tables are made from, among other things, an old basketball floor from Antwerp, metal from Nieulandt Recycling, and old fire-fighting hoses from Somati. The walls will also soon feature creative designs with cartoons by Aalst designers and artists. In a later phase, the front of the first floor will also be addressed.
Starting October 19, Sam and Ruth will be serving sandwiches there at lunchtime. With this, they also want to invite young people to get acquainted with the renovated foyer during their lunch break.
